
The Kwara State Ministry of Youth Development, in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service, has organised a one-day capacity-building training programme for members of staff of the ministry on minute writing and minuting in the public service.
The training session, which was facilitated by the Secretary of the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency, Mr Olawale Adebayo, was held at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Ilorin.
The programme was aimed at enhancing the administrative competence of staff members and equipping them with the necessary skills for effective documentation and communication within the public service.
Speaking during the opening session, the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply of the Ministry, Hajia Okanla Kuburat Atinuke, urged participants to pay close attention to the lecture, noting that the training would significantly improve their understanding of file minuting, official communication processes, and standard public service procedures.
She further expressed appreciation to the Acting Head of Service, Dr Olufunke Mercy Shittu, for approving and delegating a representative to share valuable professional insights with members of staff of the ministry.
She noted that the training session formed part of ongoing efforts by the ministry to strengthen institutional capacity, improve administrative efficiency, and promote professionalism among public servants in Kwara State.
Also speaking at the event, the representative of the Head of Service, Mr Salihu Lateef, encouraged staff members to make practical use of the knowledge gained from the training.
He emphasised the importance of continuous self-development through reading, learning, and regular professional training programmes, stressing that personal growth and an improved mindset are essential for efficiency and productivity in the civil service.
Delivering the lecture, Mr Olawale Adebayo extensively explained the significance of minute writing in the public service, the appropriate occasions for minuting, and the standard procedures involved in writing effective official minutes. He highlighted key attributes of good minuting to include legibility, clarity, conciseness, accuracy, and professionalism.
